Earlier this year I approached Matt regarding some advice for myself as a fitness business owner. I was being let down by constant staffing issues, and with the challenges of Covid thrown at the business, I simply could not find enough time to guide the business through these unprecedented times with my time being split with my full time role as a London Firefighter.
After a conversation with Matt he came on board in a interim operations management role.
Matts focus was to bring a settled staffing model into the business, including the recruitment of a Manager. Create and communicate a clear business ethos to the team and drive the standards of our service delivery.
Matt quickly threw himself into the role and as well as completing the desired tasks, took on extra responsibilities including creating content for our website, making positive changes to our coaching timetable and creating staff development opportunities.
Above all Matt brought a passion and enthusiasm to the role that was infectious through not just the members, but all the staff too.
Matt will always be welcome by the Superstar community and I can not thank him enough for the support he gave me as a friend and business owner. The biggest thank you had to be for allowing me to enjoy my business once again.
Where Matt excels is in his ability to knit together multiple complementary strands of practice to be one of the most well rounded coaches I have ever met. In addition to possesing a broad knowledge of movement, he has expertise in pratcial, sports-based nutrition, both of which are underpinned by a demonstrable theoretical understanding. Topping this off is an incredible passion for both his subject matter and his clients which, in my opinion, is a combination hard to beat. And he's a really nice guy to boot.
The years I spent being coached by Matt had many highs, the most vivid of which were the iterative improvements he was able to make to my rowing technique, associated physicality and mindset, which culminated in a repeated and steady decline of my 5km row time. The fastest of these, at the time of recording, was seconds faster than his which was an added bonus ;)
A regular class I had with him was the grave yard slot of 7:30pm on a Friday night for 90 minutes of toil. Despite this, it was the most popular class on the timetable, always fully-booked and always a thoroughly enjoyable experience thanks to the camaraderie he fostered within the group. This is great testament to his coaching as most people would rather be in the pub or on the sofa at that time rather than being encouraged to sweat, struggle and push themsleves beyond the point they thought previously possible. But that is Matt, trust in his expertise and let his passion drive you forward.
